The service industry can be one of the most challenging, trying, and demanding industries to be in. I wanted to get into this line of work for many reasons; submerse myself in the very culture that’d I’d be writing about, try something new, hone the skill of craft cocktail artistry, and of course, okay the bills. I 100% got caught up in this life style and have neglected my blog, and essentially, the city.
Well no more! Now that I’m at an amazing brewery, I’ll be able to make more time for my blog and city! I’m behind the bar at Old Majestic now and ready to get back at this.
Thank you to those of you who have followed my journey since it’s rocky beginning. Thank you to those just joining too! I’m very proud to announce a new name, with this new and improved business attitude..
Introducing, Amethyst Alchemist 💜
New logo!
I am now accepting new clients, pricing available upon request. I’m looking forward to helping your business grow!
It’s officially fall and my favorite time of the year! Perfect weather for getting out and exploring our beautiful city. Plenty of my friends have already been taking advantage of this! I’ve had so many of those friends send me some really unique and artsy shots to share on here. I’ve gotten so many that I’ve decided to create a subcategory for photography from locals! It’s so exciting to share these and introduce the beautiful souls capturing these images. While some may want to keep their pictures anonymously, others will share their story and their own businesses! If you would like to share some pictures/be featured, please just shoot me a message!
So without further ado, meet Cait! She is a Mobile native. She went to Baldwin County High school. She’s now 26 and bartends at Iron Hand Brewing with myself and two others! She’s an absolute doll and I love working with her! Tons of genuinely good locals also know and love her. I loved getting to see Mobile through her eyes, she pointed out places I never noticed!
“I love much of what makes Mobile Mobile. My favorite things about Mobile have to be the history , the fact that downtown is practically a museum. The growing art scene. Not just in terms of wall art or sculptures in our galleries, but the ever-present & changing music scene and the craft of cocktails & food that we’ve especially seen expanding over the last 5 years and I love the graffiti in the dirty alleyways. And of course the deep rooted culture that trickles down through it all. And I’m a pluviophile so the never ending rain sits high on my list as well. I can’t wait to immerse myself deeper into Mobile’s art scene with my of vintage fashion business, Funky Town Vintage!” – Cait D.
It’s shops like this one that are the reason I started this blog. The home grown, passion driven, unique gems in the heart of Mobile! Meeting business owners like Ashley and being welcomed by her and her community. Making friends with solid foundations; these are all the things I wanted to experience while in this blog journey and Ashakras went above and beyond that!
Located on the main strip of downtown, Dauphin street, right above Kazoolas. 558 Dauphin street to be exact. If y’all haven’t been here yet, RUN there! And if you’re not sure if there’s something there for you, go anyway! Even if it’s just to sit in the shop and talk with some of the people that are in and out on a regular basis. But if you haven’t been to a spiritual/metaphysical shop, you’ve hit the jackpot with Ashakras!
So this is Ashely Huntley, owner of Ashakras, creator of beautiful spaces, knowledgeable and kind to all, just a super awesome person!
Ashley started this thriving business with nothing more than a pound of assorted crystals and a support system like no other; family and friends! While realigning her sister chakras, her friend was observing and told Ashley “THIS is what you need to be doing!”. The wheels of progress started spinning fast and before she knew it, she was open for business on July 23rd, 2018!
This in itself was a miracle; a spiritual shop opening in the south?! But that’s she thing about spirituality, it’s very misunderstood. Ashley explains this so well! She gets you the product most suited for you and explains all the meanings in great detail.
Along with a wide selection of products, she also offers some incredible services! With her 3 year anniversary coming up, she’ll be having customer appreciation day on July 23rd, with 15% select items! She offers chakra healing sessions by appointment only, so call or stop by to ask about that. I’ll tell you, it’s a truly cleansing experience being submerged in frequency like that! In Augustin, Ashakras will be hosting regular yoga classes, those dates will be announced shortly. But the most exciting thing is the Ancestor Full Moon meditation class on July 24th! You don’t want to miss that!
Here’s just some of her products!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and thank you for keeping up with local businesses!
Stay tuned for more about Ashakras 💜
A quick update!! Ashakras just released this amazing video by Digital Stone Production and wanted to share the link!🤩 Enjoy ✨
Let’s get close and personal to the flavor of mobile; brewery addition. Too close? I’ll back up a bit.
That’s better
Have you ever seen such a majestic display of crisp, freshly brewed in house beer? Well, that’s what’s going on over at 656 St. Louis St, the home of Old Majestic Brewery. It’s my honor to virtually walk you through this tap room tour! Let’s start with tall, dark, and handsome..
The beard or the beer?
The beer! Say hello to the Four Fathers Stout.
An American style stout: Dedicated to our founding fathers; Washington, Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin. Their dedication to the pursuit of creating a sovereign nation inspired this American style classic. A bold coffee and chocolate-flavored stout with a well-balanced hop aroma, and a unique black currant under-tone. With a distinctive, complex dry-roasted finish this stout is a pleasure to the palate no matter the season. IBU: 71.5 ABV: 6.1 https://www.oldmajesticbrewing.com/menus/
Thank you Jacob Scarbrough! 📷
Moving on we have the Amber Waves of Grain
Old Majestic’s “Amber Waves of Grain”; an American amber ale brewed with American grown Pale, Aromatic, and Caramel malts, using native Cluster and Willamette hops. Consider this beer as a session ale having a pleasant malty; slightly spicy after taste and a floral aroma. Amber Waves of Grain is the taste of Freedom. IBU: 32.4 ABV: 5.3
Ye Old Saison
A French style saison brewed with sweet orange rinds and Himalayan sea salts, and saison yeast strain. A very delicate beer to the pallet, low in alcohol with a semi sweet orange taste. IBU: 6.9 ABV: 3.2
The Majestic Blonde
An honest to goodness Belgian Strong Ale brewed with European malts, noble hops and a strong Belgian yeast strain. The complex flavors derived from the ingredient hints notes of coriander and orange with a honey like malt sweetness. Pairs well with grilled chicken, Brie and dishes having apple and ginger. Glassware suggests Tulip or Becher pint. “Majestic’s Belgian Blonde”; a Belgian styled blonde ale: This blonde ale is typically easydrinking, with low but pleasing hop bitterness and is medium bodied with a low malt aroma and a spicy yet fruity character. Presently, we believe that this beer will be Old Majestic Brewing Company’s flagship beer. IBU: 23.8 ABV: 6.4
And many more!
Grab your mask, your friends, and head downtown to Old Majestic! Monday night yoga, different trivia nights, and an always friendly staff to help you pick the perfect beer are just some of charming qualities of this establishment. Find Sylvia managing the taproom and playing match maker with beer! Personally, I like a light ale and she suggested my new favorite beer, Joe Cain’s Cream Ale.
Want to try them all? (Trust me, you will) Grab a Flight! There’s so many to choose from!Always a great crowd!Watching them pour the next one 🤪We had such a great time taking these pictures (and drinking) thanks again, Jacob!
Meet the Owners
Chad Marchand aka The 2010 Mobile Bay Top 40 Under 40!
Chads military family has taken him all over the world but lucky for us, they moved to Montgomery where he met business partner John Minton (not pictured, equally handsome). Chad has a practice downtown, Delashmet & Marchand, P.C. Attorneys at Law. John, originally from Paris, Texas came over via Airbus! A mutual friend introduced the two beer connoisseurs where they each brought a homemade brew and the rest was history! The wheels of business started turning in 2016 and officially opened their doors December 2019 and Mobile is very grateful for that! Even with the devastating affects of Covid-19, with the help of local friends, Old Majestic is still standing tall. Chad had mentioned the specific help from other home town favorites like Braided River, Serdas, and Fairhope. Such a beautiful example of Mobile Pride. Like the mighty oak tree, Old Majestic embodies the spirit of Mobile, Patriotism, and perseverance.
Thank you for reading, I hope you’ve enjoyed this taproom tour! Stay tuned for more about all things downtown. Til then, enjoy some more pictures of beer. Or go get you one 🍻 ℤℰℕ🧘♀️💜
A little behind the scenes actionPerfect spot to celebrate 🎉
Hey there! My name is Sam. A little background on me: I grew up in (you guessed it) Mobile. I’m 24 years old, bartend at Iron Hand Brewing, and love spending time with my pit bull babies. I’ve been doing photography for about 5 years now and found my niche while looking for clients; promoting/marketing. Locally owned businesses are my favorite because of the passion, culture, and uniqueness they bring. But a lot of people aren’t familiar with the magic it has to offer. The streets are oozing with potential and I want to help! SO, without further ado, I’d like to say Welcome to my Zowntown Zen; your “go to” for all things locally owned, starting with Mobile!
